Ricky Gervais: Humor

Quote from Ricky Gervais, at the Golden Globes: “We’re not from these parts. We’re from a little place called England. You know, the place that used to run the world before you guys.” I don’t know what was funnier: the quote, or the lack of reaction from the stiff audience. The best humor is the truth…

Richard Dawkins on the evolutionary aspects of the birth of the Mac: Apple of my eye

MacOS X and Mars

What is Mac OS X? has to be the best technical article describing the lower level aspects of MacOS X I have read in recent times. Next to developer documentation, its a good read for MacOS X experts. The content and style reminds me of a 2.5 days course I created and ran 10 years ago: “Mac Support Expert”

Mars nerds: you can use the same software the scientists are using to visualize the data from the Spirit rover: Maestro. Installed and worked like a treat.

Nick in Seoul

Nick and Sherman, Korean War Memorial in Seoul. December 2003

Hello from cold Korea. Well, only about 0 degrees C. Not too cold yet. This picture is from the Korean War Memorial. The tank, for those interested, is an early Korean War era Sherman outside the memorial in Seoul.

Getting around Seoul is easy: just use the subway. Don’t feel embarrased using a subway map, trying to determine where you are. Even the locals get lost. I had two kind people ask me if I needed help. Very friendly people. Also very polite: whilst there is a small communications gap, you can get your message across. Pronunciations of some words still escape me! Visited TechnoMall: its a 10 story building full of stores selling electronic stuff. Didn’t spend too much.

A big thanks to Lonely Planet for a great Seoul guide.
